Forensic Structural Engineer Position

 
Anderson Associates is a multi-disciplined engineering firm that provides consultation services, technical expertise, in-depth problem solving advice, field and laboratory data collection, patent development, research and design projects, and expert witness support.
We have served clients in the industrial, insurance and legal industries since the 1970’s. Our facility includes a newly renovated office, state-of-the-art materials laboratory, a technical library as well as 3D modelling software and a variety of inspection equipment.
 
We currently require a mid to senior level Structural Engineer to assess cause and extent of damages, as well as determine scope of repairs. The position will focus on Structural, Building Envelope and Building Code Compliance issues. Investigations will include commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural and residential structures.
 
Detailed Description of Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • photograph, sketch and provide detailed measurements of incident sites
  • conduct investigations to evaluate the scope of damage
  • conduct failure investigations to determine causes of failures for litigation purposes
  • analyze damage and failure causes
  • produce detailed reports pertaining to investigation findings, and the cause and origin of losses knowledge of current applicable codes
  • provide reports, drawings and/or recommendations for repair and restoration
 
The above tasks may result in a need to provide expert witness evidence in court.
 
Qualifications
  • preference will be given to candidates with 10 years+ experience, ideally with experience in structural forensics
  • a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent) is required
  • Canadian Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation, or eligibility to acquire, is required
  • good organizational and communications skills are a requirement

The successful candidate will be a motivated, self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) to both technical and non-technical clients. This person will be comfortable working independently as well as in a group setting, and isn’t averse to some physical demands (ie. confined spaces, working at heights) while on a job site. A valid driver’s license, access to an appropriate vehicle, and a willingness to travel occasionally is required.
